International Coastal Cleanup Day

Thank you to ALL who came out this past Saturday for ICC Day in Lordship. Thanks to you, our community is better off than it was Saturday morning. Volunteers got into the dirt, from Captain Kidd's Garden all the way to the Trial Sustainable Pollinator Pathway Garden at the base of Laurel Street.

More than ten full lawn bags of aggressive and invasive plant material was removed in total. At the "Trial Garden" in specific, many weeds suffocated seedlings and growth was stunted. As we were in there, while the garden was being cleaned, monarchs, bees, and other pollinators took to the skies and almost immediately began to interact with newly-found life. It was beautiful.

A message from our Trial Garden volunteers:

If you are walking to the beach or nature path, please consider adding a stone or two to the sides of the stairs. As you know, the invasive weeds are resilient and often cover stairs days after being cut. If you have any large and empty cardboard boxes, please help by placing the flat cardboard behind the Trial Pollinator Garden. It helps to suppress encroaching weeds, so we can plant and weed from both sides. Thank you for supporting our diverse wildlife at Russian Beach.
