Wayne’s Walk – the popular park that walkers and joggers use as a shortcut from Riverdale Drive to Short Beach – got a spring cleaning and grooming for summer recently by it’s gardening crew of Lordship Improvement Association (LIA) volunteers.
“17 bags of mulch, lots of weeding and planting marigolds and flowering vincas,” reports garden captain Alanna Regan. Also digging, slinging mulch and planting that day were crew members Kathy Hener, Darlene Manson, Barbara Schaefer and Grace Kim.
On land owned by the Town of Stratford, the garden was created by the Wayne’s Walk Foundation “in loving memory” of Wayne Nicholas Lecardo, who was killed by a “teen drunk driver” in 2007.
Years later the LIA took on the challenge of renovating and maintaining the space (see #7 on the LIA’s Lordship Gardens map: https://bit.ly/LIAMAPGardens). And the LIA’s efforts were recognized by a prestigious 2023 Beautification Award from the Stratford Beautification Commission.

Thanks, volunteers! And thank YOU for your support of the LIA’s Lordship beautification projects. (https://bit.ly/LIA-ToDonate)
(Note: For safety, the Short Beach Park Commission will reportedly install cement posts at the park’s entrances to prevent access by golf carts.)
