Last week, I received an email message supposedly from the LIA Board president, asking me to help pay an invoice. Here’s that message:
----------------
From: (Board president’s name)
Hi John, can you help us pay a vendor via Zelle, Venmo or ApplePay please? We don't have those platforms. (Treasurer’s first name) will send you a refund check once the payment is processed. Please let me know.
Thanks,
(Board president’s first name)

At first glance, it seemed weird, but I thought, “Sure! I’ll help.” A second later the phish started to stink. That’s not how we do things, and come to find out, the sender’s reply address was not our president’s address.
The scammer apparently got our names and personal email addresses from the LIA website, where we invite members of the Lordship Improvement Association to feel free to contact us individually any time. But now, following this scam attempt, all contacts at the website have been changed to the LIA email address: LordshipIA@gmail.com. Don’t worry: your messages will be forwarded fast to the intended recipient.
Heads up: You might some day receive a similar message. Scammers are clever, but so are you! Catch the stinky phish and delete.
